Examine the Impact of Multinational Corporations Setting up in Developing Countries Essay
There has been an exceptionally dubious discussion over years now about the effect of worldwide companies setting up in creating nations, which have numerous supporters just as adversaries. Without a doubt there isn't just a single method to take a gander at this increasingly more typical wonder that influences the host nations in numerous both positive and negative ways that are examined in this paper. The term worldwide partnerships (MNCs) is utilized ââ¬Å"to distinguish firms that have broad contribution in universal business and participate in remote direct venture (FDI). MNCs own and control esteem including exercises in more than one nation that are normally organized from focal headquartersâ⬠(Griffin and Pustay, 2005). The speculation of MNCs in the creating nations has enormously expanded since the mid-1980s, as a result of globalization as they searched for new assets and bigger markets (Greer and Singh, 2000). Directly, there are more than 35,000 global enterprises with in excess of 15,000 outside auxiliaries, which is around 33% of the entire world creation. Their worth is evaluated to be more than $1.5 trillion, 33% of which in the creating nations (GhanaWeb, 2012). The creating nations with most global venture are those with most elevated development possible like Asian nations: China, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Latin American ones: Mexico, Argentina and Brazil. The African nations get under 4% while the least fortunate 50 nations overall get under 2%. Over a portion of business exercises of MNCs manage assembling and administrations and 33% with oil and gas (GhanaWeb, 2012). As per the report by the Institute for Policy Studies out of 100 biggest world economies, in light of corporat e deals and nation GDPs, 49 of those economies are nations while the other 51 are global partnerships. Additionally, it is expressed that the deals of the Top 200 organizations are equivalent to the 27.5 percent of world financial movement (Institute for Policy Studies, 2012). These numbers show how incredible MNCs are and howâ important they are to the world economy, yet what is their effect on the creating nations? From one perspective, global enterprises setting up in creating nations have a beneficial outcome on their host nations. As a matter of first importance they give direct work to nearby individuals and move of aptitudes through instruction and experience. They likewise influence the circuitous work through paying rent for land or structures and helping out neighborhood providers, who currently have more interest and should convey more excellent items. As inhabitants have more possibilities for money they can buy more and improve their ways of life, while there is commonly more noteworthy choice and accessibility of products and enterprises. The way of life of nearby individuals in some creating nations like Bermuda, the Bahamas, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan has improved to a great extent after the venture of global partnership s there (Action Institute, 2012). Moreover, pulling in remote interest in the creating nations brings about financial development and higher national pay. Such nations are normally happier with higher improvement rates, higher fares, lower imports and extra assessment incomes originating from the global enterprises. For example, when Toyota began working in Georgetown, Kentucky it paid $1.5mln in property charges, which was around one-fourth of the townââ¬â¢s city financial plan. By pulling in outside direct speculation creating nations will likewise make generous expense incomes that can be later on spent on human services, training and other local needs (Griffin and Pustay, 2005). So as to pull in outside direct speculation neighborhood governments ordinarily rival each other to offer better conditions to worldwide financial specialists and lower the personal assessments for their partnerships. However they despite everything get extraordinary measures of cash from the enterprises that they would not get something else. Also, while moving into creating nations global organizations move innovation and expertise with them. There are additionally incredible upgrades made to the neighborhood foundation to permit the compelling activity of the companies (Action Institute, 2012). That is a signif icant viewpoint for the creating nations as it improves their turn of events and brings them at any rate somewhat nearer to the created nations. Creating nations get a report on innovation that individuals become acclimated to and figure out how to deal with, while the entire neighborhood society profits by improved foundation like better streets, broadcast communications and so forth. On theâ other hand, global organizations can have an exceptionally negative impact on the creating nations. They are a solid direct rivalry to neighborhood firms that are compelled to close down and because of their political and monetary force they have favorable circumstances given by the nearby governments over little, national or new companies. A case of such extra focal points to worldwide companies over nearby firms incorporate lower tax assessment, less exacting laws and less administration in setting up and later on working the business exercises. This outcomes in out of line rivalry, while quieting down nearby firms prompts joblessness and now and again imposing business model (Global Issues, 2012). Moreover, because of their incredible size and riches worldwide organizations as a rule increase extraordinary monetary and political influence that can be abused. They typically have enormous impact on the nearby governments and are regularly connected with corporate defilement, pay off, campaigning or supporting legislative issues battles during races. As the enterprises develop greater they have a more noteworthy grouping of riches, influence and impact in the neighborhood. The nearby specialists regularly face the danger of global partnerships pulling back the neighborhood advertise if there should arise an occurrence of stricter laws, higher tax collection or different issues. In situations when global enterprises truly pulled back such markets, the entire procedure devastatingly affected nearby economy emphatically dependant on the remote speculation paces of joblessness went up and paces of monetary development went down without a moment's delay (Adeyeye, 2012). Moreover, since worldwide partnerships can bear the cost of the best legal advisors and bookkeepers they are perceived for their enormous scope charge shirking particularly throu gh mispricing moves and bogus invoicing. In 2008 it was assessed that the creating scene loses $160bn per year in charge income from just those two types of expense evasion (Global Issues, 2012). Also the way that neighborhood governments as a rule give enterprises the benefit of lower tax collection so as to draw in the outside venture. Lamentably, the creating nations for the most part don't have the skill, information, riches and influence to address such issues. The global companies are likewise known for their method of working together: benefit over individuals and their human rights. The motivation behind why they choose to put resources into have nations is to reduce expenses and expand benefits. In the event that the expense of working together was the equivalent in home and host nations no organization would choose to take such an extraordinary hazard to grow abroad with no extra advantages. An incredible open door forâ corporations is reducing expenses in one of the most costly factors of creation: work. Everybody has known about instances of work misuse, very low wages, youngster work, poor working conditions and no social insurance in plants possessed by global partnerships in creating nations. In situations when neighborhood governments need to intercede and force stricter laws on work wellbeing, compensation or even contamination controls they regularly need to manage dangers of market withdrawal and loss of outside speculation (Global Issues, 2012). All things considered, the wages paid to neighborhood laborers appear to be low by western measures, yet in nearby principles are adequate and are far superior to not having an occupation by any means. Numerous worldwide organizations like Nike have found a way to improve the working states of their representatives in creating nations. Scarcely any years prior Nike was reprimanded for the poor working conditions and ha rd ladies and youngster work in its plants in China, yet the organization didn't know about these issues as it was subcontracting with Asian producers. These days the organization works all the more intimately with subcontractors on issues concerning representative rights and working conditions in its abroad plants (The World Bank Group, 2012). To wrap things up, numerous adversaries to the marvel of global enterprises setting up in creating nations guarantee that the main explanation they choose to put resources into have nations is to access their valuable common assets. These organizations abuse the non-inexhaustible normal assets of creating nations like oil or gas for substantially less than their genuine worth. In return they adversely influence the nearby condition by dirtying air, land and water through mining, auto, oil and substance organizations. At that point inhabitants are left with no drinking water and illnesses brought about by vigorously contaminated condition like in China or India. Be that as it may, little nearby firms additionally dirty nature (for a littler scope) and the issue needs stricter government guidel ines (The World Bank Group, 2012). Since these enterprises do everything to minimize their expenses and augment their benefits, they use non-ecologically neighborly strategies for creation and non-inexhaustible assets and dispose of creation squander in a hazardous manner. It is the governmentââ¬â¢s obligation to ensure these partnerships secure the earth through monumental guidelines, controlling and ensuring they are placed practically speaking. To summarize, global organizations have both positive and negative effect on creating nations they are setting up in. They offer work to nearby individuals and improve their ways of life, bring financial development, higher national salary and duty incomes, also t

Salary Negotiation Skills for Women Close the Pay Gap! Part 2
Compensation Negotiation Skills for Women Close the Pay Gap! Section 2 Compensation Negotiation Skills for Women: Close the Pay Gap! Section 2 A week ago, I expounded on the significance of pay exchange abilities for ladies in my article, Salary Negotiation for Women. In it, I drew from data introduced in an online course by Professor Deborah Ellis that stressed how compensation arrangement aptitudes can help close the sexual orientation pay hole. I guaranteed a week ago to share progressively about explicit pay arrangement abilities. Following are a portion of the issues you may run into and how pay exchange aptitudes can assist you with tending to them. Consider the possibility that youââ¬â¢re got some information about your earlier compensation or pay desires anytime in your pursuit of employment. A few bosses attempt to get you to express a number before they do, which is not the slightest bit something beneficial for you. A low number sets you up to be come up short on by certain associations, and a high number sets you up to be dispensed with from thought. Realizing how to respond to the compensation desire question is immensely significant for ladies with the goal that they get paid decently, not founded on a formerly too-low pay. Hereââ¬â¢s how Professor Ellis suggests reacting if youââ¬â¢re got some information about your compensation desires or past pay: On the off chance that youââ¬â¢re in California, Massachusetts, Delaware, or Oregon, or in the urban areas of New York City and Philadelphia, you can clarify that there are laws expressing you are not required to answer it. These laws are an extraordinary advance toward consummation pay segregation. For example, state, ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m sure that in the event that you choose Iââ¬â¢m the most ideal possibility for the activity, we can concede to a proper compensation for the position.â⬠Or ask them ââ¬Å"What is the range that youââ¬â¢re considering for the position?â⬠Show them youââ¬â¢ve done your examination. State, ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ve done some exploration and comprehend that the range for this position is $X to $Y. I believe you will offer a reasonable pay dependent on industry standards.â⬠In the event that you should express a number, express a range. Or on the other hand request a number at the highest point of the range youââ¬â¢ve looked into, and clarify youââ¬â¢re seeking after that pay yet are happy to arrange. When you get an offer, here are Professor Ellisââ¬â¢s tips on the best way to haggle adequately: Try not to start a pay arrangement discussion before you find a new line of work offer. Try not to ask in your underlying telephone meet about compensation, advantages, or telecommuting. Hold up until youââ¬â¢ve been offered a situation before you raise any of these issues. Else you will be viewed as juvenile, best case scenario, and ravenous at the very least. You wonââ¬â¢t get a subsequent meeting. Be readied. Before you step into an exchange, figure your objective, your ask, and your main concern. Assemble however many target realities as would be prudent, including the pay rates of others. There are two primary approaches to do your exploration: Surf the web. Use salary.com, glassdoor.com, and industry-explicit sites. Ask your systems (counting LinkedIn!). On the off chance that youââ¬â¢re a lady, ask your partners what a man would approach to be paid for this activity. On the off chance that you need to telecommute, discover early whether others in comparative positions have telecommuted. Request up to 20% over your objective. Also, donââ¬â¢t acknowledge anything underneath your main concern. Arrange the absolute bundle just salaryââ¬keep pay and advantages, title, extent of obligation, travel, adaptability, and assets to achieve your activity on the table. Requesting more than one thing permits you to exchange off. Remember that a few advantages may be non-debatable, and don't push on those. Note: If youââ¬â¢re requesting numerous things, let the business know toward the start of the discussion and ask them in what request they might want to address those things. Comprehend and influence the idea of tying down. Hereââ¬â¢s how mooring functions: The main number anybody says is the number that everybody will recollect. So donââ¬â¢t state a low number first or youââ¬â¢ll be left with a low number! Start with a high number and afterward whatever else will sound littler. On the off chance that you have another offer, thatââ¬â¢s an extraordinary benchmark and bartering point. Continuously be conversational and charming while youââ¬â¢re instructing a potential business concerning different offers! Distinguish employerââ¬â¢s interests. For all the more a word of wisdom on this procedure, read Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In, by Roger Fisher, William Ury, and Bruce Patton. Request time to consider an offer in the event that you need it. In the event that an organization needs you, theyââ¬â¢ll be eager to hold up whether thatââ¬â¢s overnight or even possibly 14 days, contingent upon the circumstance. Practice with peers or an expert meeting mentor and afterward go arrange! How might I study pay exchange and compensation arrangement for ladies? Here are some incredible assets proposed by Professor Ellis: AAUW, American Association of University Women Babcock Laschever, Ask For It: How Women Can Use the Power of Negotiation to Get What They Really Want (2009) Babcock Laschever, Women Donââ¬â¢t Ask: The High Cost of Avoiding Negotiation-and Positive Strategies for Change (2007) Roger Fisher, William Ury, Bruce Patton, Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In (1991) In the event that you are a lady (or a man) with a forthcoming meeting, take a stab at utilizing a portion of these compensation exchange abilities, procedures and strategies. Iââ¬â¢d love to hear the outcomes!

Website Content that Matters in Building Your Business
Website Content that Matters in Building Your Business If you are just beginning to create a website for your business, you might have already begun looking at other websites to get an idea of what to do. What youll find, however, is a vast number of poorly run, unprofessional websites that have the wrong content and the wrong approach. If you already have a website, you are likely wondering if it is written and managed correctly. Maybe its not drawing the amount of traffic youd like to see, or maybe it isnt getting the feedback and return on investment that youd prefer. In either scenario, creating and managing meaningful, results-driven content is an obstacle that many small businesses faceâ"and one that many fail to get right. The result is a website that doesnt reflect well on their business and doesnt achieve the return and audience that it could achieve with some fine-tuning and focus on effective content. Consider the basic suggestions below for avoiding this for your own website. The best website content is simple, succinct and eas y to readIf your website has gimmicky sales pitches and many words, youre probably doing it wrong. Consider your own preferences when surfing the webâ"do you take the time to read long pages of writing when looking at a companys website? When you are looking for a service provider, do you stay on the website for longer than 10 or 15 minutes, reading through all of their sales pitches? If you are like most internet users, you dont do this. According to research conducted by Chao Liu, Ryen White and Susan Dumais of Microsoft Research, most internet users determine within the first 10 seconds if they are going to stay on a webpage or leave. If they choose to stayâ"meaning that the page is designed well and considered a good pageâ"the average length of time they will remain on that webpage is 2 minutes.Another study that was more recent and conducted by the National Center for Biotechnology Information found that 17% of page views lasted less than 4 seconds, 4% of page views lasted mo re than 10 minutes, and only 49% of words were typically read on a page containing 111 words or less. Additionally, the study found that users spend only 4.4 seconds more for each additional 100 words. What this means is that when users see more than 100 words on your page, they are most likely to scan instead of read thoroughly, spending only 4.4 seconds per 100 words.Knowing these statistics, why would anyone want to write webpages containing 600 words to describe the services they offer and how great those services are? Instead of focusing on quantity of content on your websites landing pages, you should rather focus on quality, realizing that you have less than 10 seconds to grab the readers attention and point out exactly what it is that sets your business apart from the competition.Useful content showing expertise should be professional, error-free, and updated regularlyBeyond the normal landing pages, writing content that is aimed at showing your expertise in your business is a great way to draw more potential clients. This content can be written as whitepapers, newsletters, e-books, or blogs that are filled with useful information designed to educate your clients. This is not content that discusses your business or tries to sell anything. It is content written with one purpose in mind: to educate and inform. This content will contain a higher word count because internet users want to learn information when they come to that particular webpage. For that reason, the clarity with which you relate the information is crucial, and correct grammar is an absolute must. Anything that is written sloppily or unprofessionally will be an immediate turn-off to an internet visitor who will equate the errors or poor grammar with a lack of knowledge and expertise. This will inevitably and irrevocably hurt the reputation of the business who posts it on their webpage. This content should also be updated regularly to show that your business is still working to be on the cut ting edge of its field. Old and outdated content will relay the message that either your business is behind on the times or you dont put the same amount of effort into maintaining your expertise as you once did. Neither of these messages are good to relay to potential clients. Therefore, keeping this type of expertise content updated regularlyâ"as well as older content archived wellâ"will give your business that professional, expert presence on the web that every smart business owner should strive for.Avoid sales pitches and let your professionalism speak for itselfIn my 10+ years as a marketing copywriter, I cant count the number of clients who have requested content along the lines of but wait, theres more!. So many businesses (especially newbies to internet marketing) falsely assume that this is the strategy they should take. This type of content not only fails to do what it is intended to doâ"it also turns off potential customers who are not on your website to read sales pitc hes and gimmicky language. It has the same effect as the car salesmen who yell their car ads on the radio and television. While they think it produces excitement and makes people want to buy a car, most people just turn it off or turn it down.Any marketing professional will tell you that the same rule applies across the board for all of your marketing content. Whether it is a website, blog, email drips or e-books, the art of the soft sell is much more effective in convincing potential customers to buy your products or use your services. Let your online communication focus on professionalism and information; those are the best techniques for attracting sales.

Does the Death Sentence violate the Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 4 Words: 1258 Downloads: 9 Date added: 2017/06/26 Category Law Essay Type Argumentative essay Tags: Act Essay Did you like this example? Main Issue Whether the death sentence violates the Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments? Relevant Legal Concepts ââ¬Å"Reasonable people can differ about whether the ethical judgments embodied in these legislative and judicial decisions should be legally sanctioned as the public policy of the state.â⬠(p. 64) ââ¬Å"A person whose behavior is consistent with moral principles is said to have integrityâ⬠¦People are also concerned about ethical behavior in their personal lives. They worry about whether a person with whom they have shard a confidence is trustworthy.â⬠(p. 71) ââ¬Å"Ethics, which is the study of morality, is one of the five traditional branches of study within philosophy..Ethicists are concerned with what makes conduct morally right or wrong and the essential nature of moral responsibility.â⬠(p. 72) ââ¬Å" .Is killing in self-defense wrong or ââ¬Å"What ought a physician do when a patient dying of a terminal diseas e asks for assistance in committing suicide? Modern ethicians primarily focus on normative moral issues rather than metaethical, although this tendency is of recent origin and primarilyâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (p. 72) ââ¬Å"Although law can contribute rules that embody moral norms, law in our democracy is not expected to play the primary role in promoting ethical behavior in society.â⬠(p. 73) Relevant Case Law Gregg v. Georgia, ââ¬Å"The common-law rule imposed .mandatory death sentence on all convicted murderersâ⬠¦narrowing the class of murders to be punished by death.â⬠(p. 65) ââ¬Å"And the Fourteenth Amendment, no State shall deprive any person of ââ¬Ëlife, liberty, or propertyââ¬â¢ without due process of law.â⬠(p. 65) ââ¬Å"â⬠¦.death penalty cannot be said to violate the constitutional concept of cruelty.â⬠(p. 65) Rationale Jonas had been questioned regarding his former girlfriends death. There could be a completely good reaso n why he had dried blood on his clothes, muddy boots, a bracelet with the name of his ex-girlfriends on it, or the bloody survival knife in his room. Even though the evidence in his room looks as if he was guilty, he still has the right to a reasonable trial as well as being protected by the law. An individualââ¬â¢s mental capacity is very important in the penalty phase. If in fact he had a diminished mental capacity and was guilty of murder and sentenced to death, it could be regarded as cruel and unusual punishment because it would violate his Eighth and Fourteenth Amendment right because he was not mentally stable. Since some statutes can split a criminal trial into a guilt and penalty phase, it can also give jurors frustrating and justifying factors in considering the death penalty. A court can reject the idea that Capital Punishment is severe and unexpected punishment under the Eighth Amendment as well as remove it as a punishing option for crime that is not one of mur der. If states dispensed it fairly and rationally so that it would serve a legitimate need, capital punishment could be considered constitutional. Ruling In this case, I would rule in favor of Jonas because his mental capacity would not be that of a killer. An individual who commits murder, usually will hide the evidence or dispose of it from a bridge into the water and not have it in their bedroom where there is a chance a parent will find it. He obviously had no reason to hide the bloody survival knife and muddy boots. Main Issue Whether other facts in the case are as such that the defendant can not be prosecuted. Relevant Legal Concepts ââ¬Å"Although law can contribute rules that embody moral norms, law in our democracy is not expected to play the primary role in promoting ethical behavior in society. . athletic teams, and business, professionals, and fraternal groups of all types are expected to fill the void.â⬠(p. 73-74) ââ¬Å"They often establish ethical codes, rules (such as those prohibiting, ââ¬Å"unsportsmanlike conductâ⬠or ââ¬Å"conduct unbecoming an officerâ⬠) and discipline and even expel members who violate their teams.â⬠(p. 74) Relevant Case Law In State v. Mobbley, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦where the meaning of the statutory language is plain, and where the words used by the Legislature are free from ambiguity, there is no basis for interpreting the statute.â⬠(p. 77) ââ¬Å"The statute does not exempt a defendant from prosecution.â⬠(p. 77-78) Rationale The laws are a standard in how Americans should act and treat others in society. Some individuals are held to the higher standard due to their education; especially anyone in law. When an individual has taken an oath to support the law and the constitution of the United States, they are making a promise to protect it no matter the consequences. District Attorney Schultz took that same oath. Encouraging her to lie and to not disclose the results was a direct violation. Although he is working towards reelection and this case would help him to keep his position, he would commit a injustice because although the DNA came back negative, does not mean their DNA can not be used on other cases, thereby not bringing them to justice on the other ones. His getting an unjust enrichment for keeping quiet does not uphold the law or helping the other victims. Ruling In this case, I would not re-elect District Attorney Schultz because I could not trust him to uphold the laws that he had taken an oath to protect. The court should rule a judgment against the players because I believe if the District Attorney had mentioned the DNA and he had used that DNA on other cases, they would be guilty in other cases involving violence toward women. Main Issue Whether a felony or misprision had been committed. Relevant Legal Concepts ââ¬Å"Misprision of a felony is another common law crime .makes it criminal for a person t o fail to tell authorities of the commission of a felony of which he or she has knowledge.â⬠(p 79) ââ¬Å" .absence of a legal duty to act, the law has generally left the decisionâ⬠¦.up to each individualââ¬â¢s conscience.â⬠(p. 81) Relevant Case Law from Text In Holland v State of Florida, ââ¬Å" .existence of misprision of felony as a crime at common law was to aid an alien, dictatorial sovereign .â⬠(p. 80) ââ¬Å" .the duty of a citizen to accuse every offender, and to proclaim every offense which comes to his knowledge; but the law which would punish him in every case, for not performing this duty, is too harsh for man.â⬠â⬠¦. (p. 80) Rationale Michelle committed larceny when she took the bags of money and gambled it, thereby depriving the true owner of the property. Morally, stealing is wrong, especially when it has to do with the FDIC and the individual intends to re-pay it back. But while individuals are not perfect, they tr y and make the right decision, such as in this case. Ethically she should be obligated to return the money and be penalized for waiting the three days to return it because the bank that it belonged to probably was depending on it. If everyone informed the authorities all the times they did something wrong or what they saw, the court system would be flooded with cases. It is unreasonable for individuals to confess what they did and how it would be corrected. On a personal note, I believe she should serve some time in jail for what she did because it is wrong to take something that doesnââ¬â¢t belong to you. Not reporting it afterwards is just as bad as taking it in the first place. Ruling Legally, there isnââ¬â¢t a crime of misprision for failure to report as a felony, thus, she should not do any jail time for her action. Although she should pay a fine for it. Underfunding in the Canadian Criminal Justice System
Underfunding in the Canadian Criminal Justice System Underfunding is the greatest Challenge that is faced by the Canadian Criminal Justice System. This paper will discuss the Police Forces aging population and the challenges to replace them when they retire, it will also look at the insufficient quantity of officers needed to investigate all crime. The underfunding of the legal aid program and the effects on the courts and family law will be discussed. Finally the effects of long-term underfunding of the countries prison system and its effects on the most vulnerable inmates will also be measured. Not Enough Police Officers Baby Boomers One of the challenges the Canadian justice system faces is lack of personnel, specifically policeâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦More than ever people are losing access to justice. Even though the global economic crisis affected everyone, and every jurisdictions budget there needs to be a minimum level of funding for legal aid to protect the rights of those that cannot afford legal aid (Hainsworth, 2010). According to Hainsworth, (2010) the Canadian Bar Association has asked for national standards for legal aid, just like there are standards for health care and education. The CBA believes legal aid reform is needed to ensure access to justice for low income people, it also believes funding must be increased and national standards for eligibility and civil coverage are necessary to make the system function properly again. Underfunding also causes the court system to get backed up due to the fact that 13% of accused people did not have legal counsel on their court date, whi ch causes more delays and even more visits before a judge, confirmed by a report by the justice department (Hainsworth, 2010). This causes waste of the money that is currently being spent because of court delays; it also causes waste in other sectors of the justice system with so many court dates being rescheduled. As a comparison on just how much money has been cut from the legal aid budget we can look at the budget of Ontario during the years of 1996 to 2006. During this period education spending rose 20% and health spending increased by 33% conversely legal aid

The Impact of Colonialism Free Essays
It is almost a given now that most everyone considers colonialism as a mistake. They thought that the spreading of ideas, culture, and religion would have a positive effect on the native cultures they colonized. In fact though, these changes had an adverse effect on the peoples of these countries. We will write a custom essay sample on The Impact of Colonialism or any similar topic only for you Order Now For although many laud the efforts of these countries to spread Christianity, some question the motives of these countries in dealing the everyday needs of these people. In seeing the natives as inferior the mother countries were able to justify their treatment of them. At this time many subscribed to the belief of manifest destiny and social Darwinism. This is the belief in which the colonizing of other countries is justified by the belief that if God hadnâ⬠t wanted these people to be colonized He wouldnâ⬠t have let it happen, or would have provided the colonized with the same technology which would make an invasion impossible. Another item that has caused a lot of strife within the lives of the natives is in the area of education. For many natives the history of their country before colonization is very foggy. They have been schooled from day one on the histories of their European conquerors, but seldom is the history of the native cultural even discussed let alone taught. This reminds me of the point made in Jamaica Kincaidâ⬠s novel ââ¬Å"A Small Placeâ⬠in which she comments about getting a day off of school for Queen Victoriaâ⬠s birthday. In the book Kincaid states that most of the people on the island of Antigua donâ⬠t even realize why they have been given a holiday. This type of confusion is typical in dealing with the relationship between colony and colonizer. It is however easy to sympathize with the colonizing country because they are teaching the only thing they know. They canâ⬠t teach about the native culture because they have no clue of the history. In fact probably the best method would have been to leave the history part of education in the hands of the natives. In other subjects, such as math, the colonizing may then be able to add insights that may not have been apparent to the natives. But as for the history of the country, there is nothing that a colonizing country can tell a native culture that wasnâ⬠t already known. As Jamaica Kincaid implies in her book, if there is one thing that was sorely missed after the English left Antigua it is the fact that for the first time in Antigua there were quality built, well organized places to learn. As kincaid explains in the book, the beautiful library built by the British has since been demolished. And although the renovations for a new one were supposed to end years ago it hasnâ⬠t worked out that way. The library has now been moved to a tiny apartment above a grocery store. Where once these books had been categorically stacked on shelves, they were now gathering dust, strewn across the floor and randomly inserted into cardboard boxes. This demise of education in Antigua says only one thing to me, that being that the emphasis of the government is in the wrong place. It is true that Antigua has had their problems with a corrupt government that is more interested in padding their pockets with foreign money than doing anything to improve the state of education. For what does it mean when you have a Minister of Education, possibly that you have no education? Often in looking for the hard-hitting effects of colonialism, the biggest effects are often missed. While pondering the effects of religion, commerce, and education, sometimes the effect of prejudice is left forgotten. We must realize that these are human beings that, in some cases, have just recently gained independence from their mother country. The problem with one country capturing another is the fact that the capturing country now thinks they are in some way superior to the country they have defeated. There is an air of inequality in these situations. One country is taught to feel as if their people are inferior and are therefore subject to obey the laws and rules set down by the ruling peoples. The obvious problem that arises from this position is the fact that there is now a proud native people that have been reduced to feeling as though they are less than the Europeans who have colonized them. This in turn creates a ripple effect that infects the future generations that also feel as though they are inferior. Hopefully eventually this lengthy chain ends, and a few are able to see beyond the situation being presented directly in their face. They are able to see that the prejudice is simply one country trying to keep another subservient to their wishes. And are in turn able to avoid the pit to which every other native has fallen victim to. These are sometimes the leaders that are able to lead their countries out of colonialism and into independence. Then again these leaders sometimes end up being as ruthless, or worse, than the colonizing country. This is where Kincaidâ⬠s comment from her book must be looked at a little more closely. She states that it is unfair to harshly judge the job of ruling that the Antiguans did after independence. Her point is that if corrupt ruling is all that you have ever witnessed, one canâ⬠t be expected to know how to suddenly run a successful country. For in many of these countries they are neck deep in problems with no end in sight. Yes, they were given their independence by the mother country, but in most cases the natives were left high and dry by the mother country financially. In conclusion, it is unfortunate that our world has been marred by the practice of colonialism. And even more unfortunate that so many countries in the world subscribed that same practice. It is hard to argue that we as a people have matured all that much since the days of colonialism. But if we as humans are able to avoid this terrible practice we are taking a step in the right direction. How to cite The Impact of Colonialism, Papers

Solid Propulsion free essay sample
An essay outlining the history and modern use of solid propulsion in comparison to other types of propulsion. The following paper examines the history of solid propulsion and black powder and discusses how it was used. It also looks at the advantages and disadvantages of solid propulsion in relation to its liquid counterparts. The first solid propulsion engines were invented by the Chinese early in the 13th century in use of fireworks. These homemade rockets were propelled by black powder. The first recorded military use was in 1232 in a military siege where the powder propelled rockets were used to set fire to tents. It wasnt until years later around the early 15th century when they started becoming used in Europe and equipped with a payload. Gunpowder started being used as it burned slower than black powder. The two have same the same ingredients but in different proportions. A large step forward was when the solid propulsion rockets were used to carry rope from distressed ships to shore in stormy conditions. The Anti-Semitic Dark Side of Martin Luther
The Anti-Semitic Dark Side of Martin Luther Without a doubt, Martin Luther is one of the most influential personas in European history. As a reformer, he played huge parts in creating the Protestant Christian Church. In translating the Bible from Latin into German, he created the foundations of the High German that is spoken in the country today. He singlehandedly made a mess out of Europe that resulted in the divide of Western Christendom leading to Luther being labeled The Great Divider. The aforementioned divide was followed by long and cruel struggles. Dukes and Kings soon had to choose whether they and their subjects would be Catholics or Protestants. These struggles finally led into the Thirty Years War. Many historians find, that Luther is to blame to some extent for a lot of pain and suffering. Martin Luthers Surprising Anti-Semitism From what we know about Martin Luther, we can tell, that he was very uncompromising and somewhat stubborn. The former monk had strong opinions on many issues and just as his views on scholarly matters, he felt urged to express them. He felt no remorse attacking his enemies and adversaries or those he deemed to belong to that category. What might come as a surprise to some, is that this category also included the followers of another major religion: the Jewish people.ââ¬â¹Ã¢â¬â¹ A Hate Speech Book In 1543, Martin Luther wrote a short book called ââ¬Å"On the Jews and their Liesâ⬠. It seems that Luther had hoped for the Jewish people to convert to Protestantism and as that didnââ¬â¢t happen, he was deeply disappointed. In the centuries after Lutherââ¬â¢s death, it had no special place among his literary works or underwent particular treatment. It became quite popular in the Third Reich and was even used to justify the discrimination of Jewish people. Was Hitler a Fan? Adolf Hitlerà was a declared fan of Luther and his views on the Jews. Extracts of the book were even quotedà in the propaganda movie ââ¬Å"Jud Sà ¼ÃŸâ⬠by Veit Harlan. After 1945, the book was not reprinted in Germany until 2016. The recently published edition, which was translated into modern German, proves that the reformer basically demanded the same fate for Jews that the Nazis did, with the exception of a systemic annihilation (maybe, because he could simply not fathom such a thing in the 16thà century). In earlier years, Martin Luther expressed different feelings for Jewish people, probably connected to his high hopes of them converting to Protestantism. Unsettling Views Unfortunately, the views in Luthers book reads like a manual for the National Socialistà German Workers Partyà (Nazi Party). Excerpts from his works areà as follows: ââ¬Å"(â⬠¦) set fire to their synagogues or schools and to bury and cover with dirt whatever will not burn, so that no man will ever again see a stone or cinder of them.ââ¬Å" But in his wrath, he not only turned against their synagogues. ââ¬Å"I advise that their houses also be razed and destroyed. For they pursue in them the same aims as in their synagogues. Instead they might be lodged under a roof or in a barn, like the gypsies.ââ¬Å" He propagated to take the Talmud from them and to forbid the rabbis to teach, and he wanted to prohibit Jews from traveling on the highways. ââ¬Å"(â⬠¦) and that all cash and treasure of silver and gold be taken from them and put aside for safekeeping.ââ¬Å" Finally, Luther further wanted to force young Jews into manual labor.à Though ââ¬Å"On the Jews and their Liesâ⬠is his most infamous work on Jewish people, Luther published two more texts on the matter. In the book ââ¬Å"Vom Schem Hamphoras (Of the Unknowable Name and the Generations of Christ) he put the Jews on the same level as the devil. And in a sermon, released as ââ¬Å"Warning Against the Jewsâ⬠he stated that Jewish people should be expelled from German territories if they refused to convert to Christianity.

Geotechnical - Essay Example A simpler definition of a dam would be that it is a man-made barricade for water that is built across a river or large source/mass of water especially at the far ends so as to contain the water for use in various means. In the older days, this structure was used with people back then applying dynamic remote materials to contain the flow of water across a river and then engage the reserved the intended usage. This practice of building dams has been carried along historical lines and is still being practiced in the modern world by current generation. However, it is expected that the uses of dams may have been improved and made to be quite sophisticated due to the advancement in technology and techniques of setting up such structures. Currently, dams have been put to use in areas such as the generation of electric power, controlling of floods, supply water for commercial and domestic use, and in navigation among other uses. Subsequently, there are various dams that have been currently built in the world and one such dam is the Aswan High Dam that is situated in Egypt, and built across the Nile River by two main engineers, Maurice Fitzmaurice and Benjamin Baker. A study on this dam would reveal that it is approximately 3,600m in length and approximately 111m in height. The construction of the dam was completed in the year 1970, and its inauguration took place in January 1971. Other than the domestic uses that the dam has been to, it is used to generate electricity that approximates 10 billion kilowatts in a single year, much of which is supplied in the whole of Egypt. To this regard, it can be said that dams are of a great value to economies all over the world. A diagrammatic representation of the Aswan High Dam is as shown in the figure below. Dams are also constructed in various forms and natures and currently, the

German and American Stereotypes Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 41
German and American Stereotypes - Essay Example I have American friends I can ask for a favor and I can count on them when they have promised me to help. But I have friends as well that promise me something and will not take it too serious to really keep this promise. If I want to take them by word I have to make them do things for me right the way or keep bugging them until they do it. But in Germany I experience the same thing - don't you? (Anonymous, Stereotypes) Another stereotype made by Germans towards Americans is that they believe Americans are warmongers. According to a blog called 10 common German prejudices about the USA, this is caused by the actions of the government. The author states that foreigners see Americans as war-hungry people because of the US governmentââ¬â¢s decisions. The effects felt by the foreign countries leave a stigma upon them making them believe that Americans want power. From the American perspective, some Americans believe that Germans are hateful because of what happened sixty years ago. However, in Britain the hatred towards Germans can be violent. Most Germans associate the Americans with Britain creating a bond that stereotypes both countries. But the British hatred is understandable because of World War II. Americans bearing hatred towards Germans do it likely out of fear and the anti-German propaganda of years past. On Answerbag.com, a site where one asks questions and many answers, someone asks, ââ¬Å"What are some untrue stereotypes that Americans have of Germans?â⬠Though there are many exuberant replies, there is one constant blogger, Frederik, who says that Germans are fearful of Americans.à Ã

Strategies To Resolve The Principal Agent Problem Accounting Essay
Strategies To Resolve The Principal Agent Problem Accounting Essay In general, the principal-agent problem refers to difficulties of motivating one party the agent to act for the best interest of the other party the principal. In a company, the owners of the assets (the stockholder) are the principals and the managers of the company are the agents. The stockholders of the company authorize the managers to manage and use their resources to make profit for the stockholders. (Kaskarelis, I. A. 2010) The cause of the principal-agent problem is that the information asymmetry between the principal and the agent and the principal and agent have different interests. (Ulrike, L., Arleta, M) Generally, the Agents are the managers of the resources and have more information than the principals. In a company, the managers of the company will have more information about the company than the stockholders of the company. The agents may use this asymmetric information to get interest for themselves rather than the principals. Figure 1, Basic Model of Principal-agent problem In general, the principal-agent problem is the problem that the agent is not doing the best for the principals. The so-called principal-agent problem is really caused by the interest conflicts between the two parties. As a principal, he or she wishes the agent to do the best for his or her interest. As an agent, he or she should do the best for the principal. However, without enough and appropriate motivations from the principal, the agent may not doing the best for the principals. If the agent is not acting for the interest of the principal, the moral hazard happens. This is the classical model of principal-agent problem. In order to motivate the agent to work for the best interest of the principal, incentives should be given. Strategies to resolve the principal-agent problem Make appropriate incentive structure The first strategy of solving the principal-agent problem can be from the incentive aspect of the agent. The cause of the principal-agent problem is the motivation given to the principals. Based on the experiment of principal-agent problem, high performance of the agents were observed if good compensations were given to the agents. (Ulrike Leopold-Wildburger, Arleta Mietek, 2010) Even though the relationship between the compensation and the performance is not linear, the outputs of the agents have positive relationship with the compensation of the agents. Yuliy Sannikov (2008) advocates that the dynamic incentives play very important role in the economic life. In a company, the wages of the managers and also the employees can affect the performance results of the company. Connecting the compensations of the agents to the performance will give incentives to the agents to do their best. In a company, the employees salaries can be connected to the performance results of the employees. The managers salaries can be linked to the performance of the company. In this situation, the managers of the company will have enough incentive to do their best. The stockholders of the company can also enjoy the better profits of the company. One alternative solution is to give the managers of the company certain amount of corporate stocks. The income of the managers are affected by the stock prices (Bruhl, R. H. (2003). The managers will have the incentive to do the best to increase the stock price of the company. In fact, many listed companies have the so called Equity Incentive Package (Bronstein, R. J. 1980). Pro and cons This strategy of solving the principal agent problem is the most basic one and the short-term effect can be seen immediately. Linking the agents compensation with the performance by giving the managers corporate stock is the most effective way to solving the principal agent problem. The potential drawback of this strategy is that giving the managers stock may result in the possibility of insider trading. Evaluate the performance of the agent continuously The second strategy of solving the principal-agent problem is to monitor the agents behavior and evaluate the performance of the agents. I will explain this in the case of a company. In a company, the managers as the agents and the stockholders of the company are the principals. The managers behaviors are monitored by the stockholders closely in order to make sure that they are doing the best for the interest of the stockholders. In the company, the evaluation of the performance of the company is also very important. When the evaluation of the performance plays a role in determining the compensation of the employees, that is to say there is still room for the employees to improve the performance (Carl Blumstein, 2010). with the monitoring of the companys performance, the managers of the company tend to perform better. Pro and cons Continuous evaluation of the performance in a company can motivate the managers continuously (Long, N., Sorger, G. 2010). Because of the continuous motivation, the performance of the company can keep improving. This is the biggest advantage of the strategy. However, the evaluation process of the managers is a time and money consuming task. The evaluation or monitoring of the agents may incur a lot of expenses. Regulate the agent with moral standards The principal-agent relationship is not only a kind of legal relationship between the principal and the agent. The principal agent problem is also a moral hazard problem (Randy, S. 2011). According to the basic business ethics, it is ethical for the agents to do the best to represent the interest of the principals. The first strategy of solution by building the appropriate incentive structure of the agents and the second strategy of monitoring the activities of the agents can get only short term results. In the long term, establishing the ethical awareness of representing the best interest of the stockholders can be a good choice. With a good ethical awareness, the principal and agent problem can be solved in the long term (Ruachhaus, R. W. 2009). In the case of Psychiatrists Relationships with Industry, the principal agent problems can be solved from both incentives and ethical view (Appelbaum, P. 2010). The doctors are the agents of the patients. The doctors with high moral standard will not recommend medicines of high cost to the patients unless is necessary. Pro and cons The moral standard improvement requires a long time and also needs the commitment of the employees. The moral issues in the principal agent problem can be seen clearly, but sometimes it is very difficult to distinguish. The potential advantage of this strategy is that it can achieve long term result in the company. Conclusion The principal agent problem comes from the asymmetric information between the principal and the agent and the principal and agent have different interests. The principal hires the agent to work for him and the agent works for the interest of the principal. Without enough motivations, principal agent problem appears. The principal agent problem is also a moral hazard problem. There are three alternative solutions to overcome the principal agent problem. One is to give incentives to the agent. The second is to evaluate and monitor the agents activity to make sure the agent works best. The last solution is depending on the moral standards. All these three solutions have different advantages and disadvantages.

Samarium Facts - Sm or Element 62
Samarium or Sm is a rare earth element or lanthanide with atomic number 62. Like other elements in the group, it is a shiny metal under ordinary conditions. Here is a collection of interesting samarium facts, including its uses and properties: Samarium Properties, History, and Uses Samarium was the first element to be named in honor of a person (an element eponym). It was discovered in 1879 byà French chemist Paul Ãâ°mile Lecoq de Boisbaudran after he addedà ammonium hydroxide to the preparation made from the mineral samarskite. Samarskite gets its name from its discoverer and the man who loaned Boisbaudran the mineral samples for his study -- Russian mining engineerà V.E. Samarsky-Bukjovets.Ingesting the right dose of samarium chloride will allow it to bind with alcohol and prevent you from getting intoxicated. Its unknown exactly how toxic samarium is. Its insoluble compounds are considered non-toxic, while the soluble salts may be mildly poisonous. There is some evidence samarium helps stimulate metabolism. It is not an essential element for human nutrition. When salts of samarium are ingested, only about 0.05% of the element is absorbed, while the rest is immediately excreted. Of the absorbed metal, about 45% goes to the liver and 45% is deposited on to bone surfaces. The remainder of the absorbed metal is eventually excreted. The samarium on bones remains in the body for around 10 years.Samarium is a yellowish silver-colored metal. It is the hardest and the most brittle of the rare earth elements. It tarnishes in air and will ignite in airà at about 150 à °C.Under ordinary conditions, the metal has rhombohedral crystals. Heating changes the crystal structure to hexagonal close-packed (hcp). Further heating leads to a transition to a body-centered cubic (bcc) phase.Natural samarium consists of a mixture of 7 isotopes. Threeà of these isotopes are unstable but have long half-lives. A total of 30 isotopes have been discovered or prepared, with atomic masses ranging fromà 131 to 160.There are numerous uses for this element. It is used to makeà samarium-cobalt permanent magnets,à samarium X-ray lasers, glass that absorbsà infrared light, a catalyst for ethanol production, in the manufacture of carbon lights, and as part of a pain treatment regimen for bone cancer. Samarium may be used as an absorber in nuclear reactors. Nanocrystallineà BaFCl:Sm3 is a highly sensitive x-ray storage phosphor, which may have applications in dosimetry and medical imaging. Samarium hexaboride, SmB6, is a topological insulator that may find use in quantum computers. The samarium 3 ion may be useful to make warm-white light-emitting diodes, although low quantum efficiency is an issue. In 1979, Sony introduced the first portable cassette player, the Sony Walkman, made using samarium cobalt magnets.Samarium is never found free in nature. It occurs in minerals with other rare earths. Sources of the element include theà minerals monazite and bastnasite. It is also found in samarskite, orthite, cerite, fluorspar, and ytterbite. Samarium is recovered from monazite and bastnasite using ion exchange and solvent extraction. Electrolysis may be used to produce pure samarium metal from its molten chloride with sodium chloride.S amarium is the 40th most abundant element on Earth. The average concentration of samarium in the Earths crust is 6 parts per million and about 1 part per billion by weight in the solar system. The elements concentration in seawater varies, ranging from 0.5 to 0.8 parts per trillion. Samarium is not homogeneously distributed in soil. For example, sandy soil may have a samarium concentration 200 times higher at the surface as compared with deeper, damp layers. In clay soil, there may be over a thousand times more samarium at the surface than further down. The most common oxidation state of samarium is 3 (trivalent). Most samarium salts are pale yellow in color. An approximate cost of pure samarium is about $360 per 100 grams of metal. Essay on Nurture versus Nature - 756 Words
Nurture versus Nature The human brain is a portion of the central nervous system and serves as the control center for movement, sleep, hunger, and virtually everything else vital and necessary to survive. Not only that, but the brain also controls all human emotions from fear and love, to elation and sorrow. It also receives and interprets countless signals from other parts of the body and the outside environment. Summarily, the brain makes us conscious, emotional, and intelligent. Its no wonder that with everything going on in the brain, so much emphasis is placed on its development. We now know, from scientific research, that the brain grows at a rapid rate within the first years of an infants life. With this information in mind,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The structure of the brain is delicate, especially during the maturation years of development. If the brain is traumatized in any such way within the first years of childhood, those traumatic events will shape the brain as it would have they been jovial ones. These events change the structure of the brain in numerous ways. Though these changes are internal, they have a tremendous outcome on behavior as well. Trauma elevates stress hormones, such as cortisol, that wash over the tender brain like acid, as a result, regions in the cortex and in the limbic system are 20 to 30 percent smaller in abused children than in normal kids. (Begley, p.20) This 20 to 30 percent difference generates enough anxiety to induce spouts of stress hormones at the slightest thought or reminiscence of a previous traumatic situation. This kind of reaction often causes problems with attention, concentration, and impulsive behavior. The ability to learn can also be altered via early childhood trauma. It is from this trauma that neurotransmitters, that play a key role in telling growing neurons where to go and what to connect to (Begley, p.32), are matted and cause insufficiency in learning capabilities. Online and Campus Classes Free Essays
Itââ¬â¢s time like these that make people want to go back to school to get a degree or further their education. Although most people cannot afford to go to college and while others can afford to go. There still be questions that linger over both group of people head about is it better to do online courses or on campus courses. We will write a custom essay sample on Online and Campus Classes or any similar topic only for you Order Now People want to go back to school but the time and money is they biggest factor that hold them back from doing just that. Doing online will be less time consuming and can save them some money as well.Although, studies show that ââ¬Å"Research suggests that online courses have significant higher dropout rates than face-to-face courses,â⬠(Tello,2007). By that most people get phobia to do online classes and they just do not worry about it anymore. It not easy to do online classes because students will have to study more and they have less interaction with the instructor. In the same way, good feedback from the instructor help students in online courses to perceived to higher satisfaction(Tello,2007). Even though that more students in online courses dropout than on campus due to little interaction with the instructor, online is better for people who do not have time or money to go to school on campus because some people feel more comfortable in their home than a classroom and online courses save you extra time for other duties you have to do around the house. The Prestige of Students Who Attend on Campus College are Greater with the Instructor à à à à à à à Higher quality of learning on campus college seems to be better for students.Students have better interaction with the instructor going to on campus college. Students have a better feel for the courses and learn more with the help of the instructor and their classmates. One factor that is consistently identified as contributing to students achievement, satisfaction, and persistence in face-to-face college classroom is interaction(Tello,2007). Face-to-face discussions help some instructor to help students with cer tain problems they might have with the assignment. The instructor can see which student is having a difficulty time with their work and can help them to correct the problem. Face-to-face help the instructor and students to figure out what they need to do to better themselves for the course. For instance, when a student have a problem with learning an assignment then the instructor can sit down with that student and talk it over. Students can also form groups to study together in, which will help each other out on the problems they are having with the assignment. In-Person Classes In-person classes are needed for students that better learn with face-to-face interaction. Most students have a problem interpret what they read in text.Thatââ¬â¢s why some research suggest that online courses have a higher drop-out rate than face-to-face courses(Tello,2007). Most students requires much needed interaction with the instructor especially in complex classes. To help the students better understand whatââ¬â¢s going on with the assignment. For students who seem to learn better that way need to take classes on campus. Also, in-person help students and the instructor to gain a bond with each other. Teachers and students can become very close friends over a period of time by seeing each other everyday.Doing face-to-face classes give students the ability to stop their instructor and let them know theyââ¬â¢re lost. For instance, when a certain text of the assignment become complex a student, they can stop the instructor and get help on that part of the assignment. By doing that give the instructor and students time to go over the text and figure out what the student are having a dilemma with. Face-to-face have its advantage over online courses do to more interaction with the instructor. Students can raise their hand to ask question to the instructor when needed. In an online class the student have to post that question in a forum and wait until the instructor get time to answer that question. It might seem that online classes are bad to do because of less interaction with the instructor but that just the outlook of it. If a student engage more into the discussion question like they should than they will have no problem with interaction with the instructor. In class on campus the student can easy stop the instructor and get help and that true. The students can do the same thing online as well but it different than just raising your hand. All the student have to do is post any question they have and the instructor will answer their question. That why itââ¬â¢s important that the student have and do their work on time. So if there is a question about the assignment they need to know they can find out the answer in good time. Online teach students the importance of time management and how to stay ahead. The way the students do things on campus is totally different than online classes. Students see that if they play around then they will fall behind quick. They really do not have time to joke around because they have a time frame to turn in their work. This make the students more responsible to learn how to keep things in order and use their time wisely. Online might have it down turn as well as it upside to it but in the long run online stand out better than on campus. The Risk of Students on Campus College à à à à There are many risks students can be involved in while going to college on campus. The affect of students going to college on campus are high for students. So many students are face with so much peer pressure every day at school. One of the main risk students have on campus is HIV.Students are at high risk for HIV by having sex with multiple partners while attended college on campus(Adefaye, Abiona, Balogan, Durrell,2009, August). Students also be pressure by their classmates to drink and party a lot. Furthermore, that leave students with less time to study for their class. Students lack in study going to college on campus than students in online classes. Most students attend all types of parties that go on in college. Students do not put time into study do to the lack of rest they get from the parties they attend every other night. When ask, students reply that they have only one life to live while they young and they going to enjoy themselves. For the ones who do online classes do not be pressure to go party because they are at home doing they school work. They go out too but after the work has been done because they have no roommate in their ear saying come on and letââ¬â¢s go party. Online is More Convenience for People to do à à à à à à à Online is more convenience for people to do then college on campus. Most people up in age feel more comfortable at home doing their school work than on campus.Do to age difference in college most older people feel out of place around the younger students. That why they have more people who are a family person doing online classes. Especially women, they are likely to attend online classes than men. Women feel more pressure at college from others than the men do. Women have more peer pressure put on them to do things that they do not feel comfortable doing. Thatââ¬â¢s why the gender play a big role to the percentage of students that enroll in online classes(Dabai, Hawa,2008, Spring). The males are more likely to go to school on campus than online but it also convenience for them too. It might seem that it better suit the women than the men to do online but it good for all gender. Some males feel better to just be at home and do their work as well. If people have very little income coming in that make it hard to afford a room on campus or drive to school everyday than online is the way to go. Trying to get up and fight the through all the traffic and get to school on time can be a headache at times. That why when you do online them type of things is not a factor to worry about. All the student have to do is get up out of bed and walk to your computer and log in. Time can be on your side when doing online classes. Students have a Better Overall Outcome in an Online Classes à à à à à à Students have better outcome in online classes than on campus does. For instance, students that do online classes study harder to learn what they are reading to past the course. Students that go to school on campus take it easy do to the help the can receive from their classmates. Time management is a big key factor in doing online classes. Students have to plan ahead to get their work done and turn in on time. With good time management students can set aside necessary time to do others things around the house. At home students can study and get their work done with minimal distractions from others. Students can better concentrate and focus better at home without the distractions from other students. Online is convenience for students who cannot afford to get back and forth to school. It save time and money that most people do not have to give these days(Anonymous,2009,10,Sept). Plus, some faculty have better success with students online than on campus. With some studies done on distance education ââ¬Å"Their results suggest that experienced faculty view distance education as effective in terms of students performance and instructor-to-student interaction, and they ââ¬Ëpromote and recommend engagement in distance educationââ¬â¢(p. 69)â⬠(Bolliger Wasilik,2009,p. 103). These days it good to learn how to use a computer and do school work on it. Most jobs people get now ask for some type of computer skills. Now that will benefit the student who been doing online classes because they have more experience in the computer than a student who do school on campus. The more a student do work online the more they become familiar with the computer and build their computer skills. Online help people in so many ways not just for school but also for a future job. Even though that more students in online courses dropout than on campus, due to little interaction with the instructor online is better for people who do not have time or money to go to school on campus. Doing online classes help out in many ways with people who cannot afford to go to school on campus. For instance, if youââ¬â¢re a parent and cannot find anyone to watch their child for them until they go to school. Then online classes will be perfect for that parent to do and at the same time save money for a babysitter. Online classes take more study to do but its still take a load off of the student from trying to run back and forth to college on campus. With some studies done on distance education, â⬠Their results suggest that experienced faculty view distance education as effective in terms of student performance and instructor-to-student interaction, and they promote and recommend engagemen t in distance educationââ¬â¢(p. 9)â⬠(Bolliger Wasilik,2009,p. 103).References Tello, F. Social Media Recruitment Research Study
Question: Describe about Social Media Recruitment: Research Study? Answer: Sample design Primary as well as secondary research will be undertaken so that the researcher can collect complete information about recruiting through social media. A detailed insight about the research that was undertaken is discussed below. The researcher started with the secondary research so that they can understand the thoughts of other researchers on social media recruitment. They researchers will undertake studies through newspaper, journal and magazines. This is a new trend in recruitment; hence, lot of information will be available about social media recruitment for secondary research. Primary research will also be undertaken so that the researcher can understand from the recruiter as well as the candidate. The researcher spoke to the recruiters to understand their motive and experience with using social media recruitment. This allowed the researcher to understand the efforts that are put in by the recruiter on social media to get the right set of people. On the other end, the researcher also spoke to some IT professionals so that they can get an idea on how the IT professionals perceive about recruiting through social media. The researcher will try to understand the perception that people form when they look at job openings on the social media (Konrad 2013). Limitations of the research The researcher used both the methods of research so that the research can be perfect but there were certain limitations. Few of the limitations that the researcher faced while they undertook the research are as follows: - The time period required to complete the research was more than what the research got one. The researcher needed some time to look for better studies but they didnt have extra time available to them. All the recruiters were not willing to talk the tactics that they use for recruitment on social media. Getting the required information from the recruiter as well as the candidate was a challenge. The research was very qualitative in nature and hence, the researcher wouldnt collect maximum information based on the facts and numbers (Pempek 2009). Analysis Sources of recruitment from social media If an organization is planning to undertake recruitment from social media then they need to be sure of the source from where they are planning to hire. They cannot just hire from any random social media website. There are plenty of websites but choosing the right one is very important. Few of the social media websites that can be trusted for the purpose of recruitment are discussed below. Facebook is the place wherein people from different corners of the world are present. People share their personal profiles and they exchange messages with their friends. The recruiters can create pages wherein they can post jobs that will liked by people from particular profile. Recruiters can also request the friends and friends to friends to share the job openings so that more and more are aware of the existing openings. Blogging is also one of the other social media that can help the recruiter to get access to profiles that arent shared on the job portal. If there are plenty of recruiters then the recruiter can motivate their colleagues as well to do job posting on the blog. This will help to attract more candidates (Jovanoviv 2012). LinkedIn is one of the most professional social media websites where people upload their resume and get in touch with people who they think can be value adding to their career growth. The recruiters can connect with people who possess the skills that the recruiter is looking. Apart from that, the recruiters can also message the candidates about the opening that they possess. Interested candidates will revert back with the resume and this can be value adding to the recruiter. Twitter is also one of the best places where the recruiter can look for people who will match their requirement. The recruiter should ensure that the number of people who are following them on Twitter is more so that a lot of people will get to know about the opening. Lastly, the recruiter can also use YouTube. YouTube is one of the best websites where people can share videos. The recruiter can upload attractive videos about the company and also the existing job opening. This will help the recruiter to attract the candidates towards the company. The recruiter will have to put in efforts so that they can create an attractive video and at the same time, they will have to ensure that a lot of potential candidates are viewing the video that is shared on YouTube (Hamade 2013). Recruitment process using social media If the recruiter has decided to opt for social media platform for the purpose of recruitment then they will have to stick to a process. If the recruiter is not in sync with the process then they will not be able to hire right candidate. The process that would help any recruiter to source right resume from social media are discussed below. There are plenty of social networking sites so the recruiter will have to choose a social media that they think will best meet their requirement. The social media website will be considered to be appropriate to hire IT resumes. The recruiter cannot look for electrician on social media websites. There may be specific websites wherein people from a particular industry will discuss about the problem that they may be facing. This is one of the best ways by which the recruiter can reach the right set of people. On the social networking site, the recruiter will come across plenty of people who are looking for a job but the recruiter cannot just randomly shortlist any resume. The recruiter should take time and only shortlist the perfect resumes so that the candidates can go for the interview and crack the interview if they are smart enough. If the recruiter is posting a job advertisement then they should ensure that applying for the job is simple. If the recruiter thinks that the candidates will put in efforts to apply for the job then they are wrong. The recruiter will have to understand and accept a simple fact that the candidates on the social media site may not be desperate for a job and hence, they may not put in efforts to apply for the job. The job advertisement that you have placed on the social media website should be attractive. The advertisement should sell the company so that the job applicants are willing to be a part of the company. Even the best of company will not be able to attract candidates through social media sites if they post one-liner job requirements (Fusco 2012). Why social media recruiting? There are various reasons due to which social media recruiting is considered to be better than that of the other types of recruitment. Few of the reasons due to which social media recruitment should be opted by the companies are discussed below. Social networking sites are the place where people can meet and hence, even if few of the people get to know about the open position then they can pass on the information to their friend. There are more than 900 million people available on social media and hence, the recruiter can be rest assured that they will be able to easily close the open position. If a recruiter works on any particular kind of positions then they can connect will all the possible professionals in similar kind of profile. If the recruiter is good with connecting then they need not put in efforts to close any position. They can just place a job advertisement on the social media site and they will see plenty of applicants. The recruiter can just line up the candidates whom they think is suitable for the position. If the recruiter is using social media for recruitment then they can be rest assured that they can target the right set of people. One may not get to know about the kind of person that one is recruiting when it is done through job portals or internal database but that is not the case with social media target. This allows the recruiter to target right set of people rather than that of just hiring someone for the sake of it (Buzzetto 2012). Benefits of social media recruitment There are various benefits of social media recruiting and hence, the companies are motivating the recruiters to do so. Few of the benefits that the company will gain if they undertake recruitment through social media are discussed below. Social media is the place where people ensure that they spend at least some time of their day. If the company opts for recruitment through social media then they can build a brand image. The potential candidates will see the name of the company repeatedly and then they may collect information which may be beneficial to the recruiter as well as the company. Social media is one of the most cost-efficient ways by which recruitment can be undertaken. If the company buys a job portal then they will have to pay for the subscription. To stay ahead in the competition, they will have to pay for multiple portals and not just any one single job portal. Social media networking is available for free of cost. If the organization is planning to do IT recruitments through social media then they are rest assured that they are hiring the best quality resources. The people who use social media networks are considered as early adopters and also smart with the work that they job and hence, the recruiters can be confident enough that they are hiring the best available people. Recruitment through social media is much quicker than that of recruitment through other sources. The number of people who check social media sites regularly are high as compared to people who check the job sites. The recruiter can close the position quickly (Bennett 2010). Recommendations Few of the recommendations that would help social media recruitment to be far better than what it is today are as follows: - 1. The recruiter can create a separate recruiter profile so that people can get to know the kind of recruiter.
